The 10 nominees for the Polaris Music Prize were announced this month, kicking off the first Canadian monetary prize of its kind that recognizes a full length album based solely on artistic merit without regard to genre or record sales. A panel of more than 120 Canadian judges contributed their picks for the best albums and the nominee list is stacked with great Canadian talent including Broken Social Scene, Cadence Weapon, Sarah Harmer, K’Naan, The New Pornographers and Wolf Parade, among others. The prize, sponsored by Rogers, is modeled from the British Mercury Prize and will feature a 10-track compilation album alongside.
