Youthography’s Top Picks for July, 2006

Soobax – K’Naan – The Dusty Foot Philosopher – Salt X
The 10 nominees for the Polaris Music Prize were announced this month, kicking off the first Canadian monetary prize of its kind that recognizes a full length album based solely on artistic merit without regard to genre or record sales. A panel of more than 120 Canadian judges contributed their picks for the best albums and the nominee list is stacked with great Canadian talent including Broken Social Scene, Cadence Weapon, Sarah Harmer, K’Naan, The New Pornographers and Wolf Parade, among others. The prize, sponsored by Rogers, is modeled from the British Mercury Prize and will feature a 10-track compilation album alongside. This month, Play List features selected songs from Polaris Music Prize nominees (like K’Naan), so check them out!

SexyBack – Justin Timberlake – FutureSex / LoveSounds – Jive Records
J is for Justin Timberlake! We’ll make our bias known – we love JT and think his new single SexyBack is as hot as he is. This is Justin’s second solo album after cutting the apron strings with 90s boy band N*Sync and we hope he never looks back! From the pounding beats, gruff vocals and sexy collaboration with Timbaland we expect every track to satiate our appetite – we’ve been waiting over 2 years for this! The song is already being remixed by prominent DJs and will be a crowd favourite for a while so listen to it now.

Cheated Hearts – Yeah, Yeah, Yeah’s – Show Your Bones - Interscope
User-generated content is on everyone’s lips these past few months with the success of internet darlings Myspace and Youtube. Youthography wholeheartedly supports the efforts of any brand or organization that can rally audience to contribute to creating content, which is why we love this new video by the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s for their new single “Cheated Hearts.”  The video is a collection of video clips submitted by YYY’s fans airband-ing to the song in the bands popular style. From across the States and Canada, fans are take’n, take’n, take’n it off for this video!
