Youthography’s Top Picks for September 2006

White and Nerdy – Weird Al Yankovic (Straight Outta Lynwood, Sony BMG)
We think it’s fair to say that the success of Weird Al Yankovic in the early 90s was largely thanks to word of mouth And now, due to the massive popularity and adoption of viral video, Weird Al’s newest jab at pop culture is heating up the net. “White and Nerdy” is a parody of rapper Chamillionaire’s “Ridin’ Dirty” and is about all the nerdy joys –from Dungeons & Dragons, to math, to Star Trek and Bowling. Chicken Noodle Soup – BET 106 & Park
Get this – two teenagers from Harlem are gaining the attention of the world thanks to a song they created complete with dance moves. The song started playing in New York teen venues, but spread like wildfire when it hit online. The Chicken Noodle Soup Dance is an internet meme following in the footsteps of Peanut Butter Jelly Time, dancing in an arm-flapping, side-stepping manner. If that last sentence made no sense to you, it’s time for you to spend some quality time on Wiki to get caught up.

The Hardest Button to Button – The White Stripes on The Simpsons
The Simpson’s has long been an institution to showcase bands and artists over the decades – from “Hullabalooza” to Ringo Star to N*Sync – the list is endless and everyone has a favourite quote (Who Huddle!). Joining the list this month were The White Stripes in a short clip featuring The Stripes in a drum-off with Bart Simpson. If you missed it on TV, check it out on Youtube now and watch the original classic video.
