Welcome to Playlist, Youthography’s newest monthly offering that features high rotation music that we think are important indicators of contemporary youth culture. It’s been too hot outside so we’ve taken refuge inside watching loads of great TV – from pilots and premieres we’re laughing, crying and silently judging all the way.

The Flight of the Conchords – “Beautiful Girl” (Sundays at 10:30ET on HBO)
Bret and Jemaine are a New Zealand parody band looking to find success in the Big Apple and along the way they sing about their challenges finding love, making love, robots, being friends and not being friends. It’s like The Office meets SNL Digital Shorts – okay, but way better and funnier! The series has been a hit with key influencers and is gaining mega buzz on the interweb. Fans rejoice that it’s been picked up for a second season by HBO.

High School Musical 2 (Disney)
Disney has earned a license to print money with its made-for-TV-movie franchise High School Musical as it breaks TV and music records left and right. When High School Musical 2 premiered earlier this month it drew an audience of 17.2 million, making it the most-watched basic cable program ever! The high continues as the movie’s soundtrack holds the number one spot as the top-selling album – it entered the charts at number one when it sold over 683000 copies worldwide in its first week. Our hearts go out to parent’s everywhere…

Heidi Montag featuring Spencer Pratt – “Body Language” (Mondays @ 10ET on MTV)
We love the D.R.A.M.A. and apparently we’re not alone. Season 3 of MTV’s smash hit show The Hills premiered this month with 3.6 million viewers watching – making it the highest rated program for Monday night across all cable in its time slot. The catfighting between former Laguna Beach resident and Teen Vogue intern Lauren Conrad and ditzy friend Heidi Montag has reached a boiling point this season. To add to the mix, fans of the show went crazy when a “leaked” release of Heidi’s musical debut played on Ryan Seacrest’s morning show on KIIS FM.
